Creative Ways You Can Spend Your Remaining FSA Dollars

You’ve seen this movie a thousand times. There’s only a handful of weeks left in the plan year, and unless your employer offers an FSA rollover, you’re rushing to use any money you still have in your Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or it will be forfeited. If you’re like the 44% of people surveyed who said they rushed to spend the rest of their FSA funds at the end of the plan year, this can make your movie quickly shift from comedy to tragedy.

But don’t worry, there are plenty of creative ways to use the rest of your FSA

  • Schedule that doctor’s visit or get a checkup.
  • Schedule an eye exam. You can use your FSA to buy new glasses, contact lenses or have lasik eye surgery.
  • Does one of the kids need braces? Orthodontia is an eligible expense.
  • Fill a prescription
  • Nontraditional treatment: Visits to the chiropractor or acupuncturist are covered
  • Have a service animal? Your service animal’s food, vaccinations and grooming costs are FSA eligible
  • Prepare for an emergency (or just a vacation) or re-stock your medicine cabinet: This is the easiest way to spend your FSA funds. Need to find a nearby store that accepts eligible RX transactions? Use the SIGIS store locator so you can swipe your Ameriflex Debit Mastercard® with even more confidence.

You can also start stocking up on any of these items:

  • Feminine Hygiene products
  • Over-the-Counter medications
  • Sunscreen
  • Band-Aids
  • Cough Drops
  • First-Aid Kits
  • Athletic braces/supports
  • Contact lens solution
  • Lip balm
  • Heating pads/ice packs
  • Shoe soles
  • And much more!
